About Irene Burns
IRENE HAS INSTRUCTED ON THE SHIPS OF:
CELEBRITY, ROYAL CARRIBEAN, PRINCESS, P&O, FRED OLSEN & CMV
Irene served eighteen years as a police officer, reaching the rank of Inspector. When she left, her passion for sewing and crafts in general lead her to opening her first craft shop. This soon multiplied to two shops. As a shop owner, she taught sewing classes locally for about twenty years, some times adult education in the community, sometimes children after school and other times, adult with special needs in a local college.
She has been working on cruise ships for four years and has a varied collection of crafts that she teaches on the ships. Most can be completed with an hour, some, the sewing crafts, taking longer but can be finished whilst in the library or sunbathing on the decks.
Beading Projects:- Handbag charms, Three pairs of earrings, Kilt Pin broach
Paper and card crafts:-Iris folding make a card, 3D poppy card, Little boxes nicely decorated, Woven bookmarks, Miniature memory album, Cover a note book following a design using fabric to remind you of your cruise.
Sewing projects:-scarf bauble necklace, stitch a chocolate, hardanger for beginners, bargello stitch -learn wave stitch or northern lights stitch, make a french knot picture.
Other:- Make a CD clock, weaving, make a loom on card and start weaving.
Irene’s teaching methods,:- she has lots of samples of all her projects, she give verbal instructions, usually one step at a time, then demonstrates them at a table, those who are not sure gather round or she often visits each table to check on progression. She find the passengers help each other if the class is busy. Her assistant is usually Mick her husband who has been fully trained and is a valuable help.

2.* Hardanger- learn kloster blocks, eyelets, cable stitch, cutting out and needle weaving. Ideal for Norway and the Hardanger Fjord
3. Stitch a chocolate
4.*Bargello, stitch a small sample either Wave stitch or Northern lights stitch
5. French knot picture- stitch sheep
6. *English quilting paper piecing, make a pin cushion
