Destination Sample Presentations

1)    Edinburgh:  Kings, Castle, Scoundrels and Ghosts    Take a walk-through scenic Edinburgh.  Visit its famous sites and learn about the people who have made the town famous, including not only kings and queens but also the sinners and saints who lived there.

2)    The Battle of Ireland:   The English versus the Irish   Irish history is a story of the ongoing rivalry between the English, who ruled Ireland for centuries, and the local population, which finally achieved independence over part of the island in the Twentieth Century.  This discussion will focus on the individuals who were at the heart of this never-ending conflict.

3)    Liverpool:    From ships to Beatles to Football    Unlike its big sister London, Liverpool is not well known by people who have not lived there.   You will explore the city and learn about its history and most famous (and infamous) people.

4)    Mexico:    An historical perspective   This two-part talk will focus, first, on Mexico before independence, including the Aztecs, the Spanish conquest and the long battle for Mexican independence.   In the second part of this presentation, the focus will shift to Mexico post-independence, including its current political issues and its relationship with not only the United States but also the rest of the world.  Emphasis will be given to the individuals who made Mexico what it is today.

5)    Norway and Vikings:    Far more to the story than what you might see on television.   Norway’s fjords are famous for their beauty.  The country’s history is quite complex, starting even before the Vikings became the scourge of Europe.  But were the Vikings really as bad as they are now portrayed?   And what happened to Norway after the Vikings disappeared almost 1,000 years ago.
