Todd Sedano

Fun at Sea Lecturer and Facilitator

Bio
Todd enjoys teaching creativity techniques for the everyday person. Each of us can learn to be more creative, more accepting of the present moment, and more adaptable to change.

For 11 years, Todd was the Director of the Software Engineering master program at Carnegie Mellon University. He taught engineers how to “improv”, by examining how they could be more spontaneous in their personal lives and on their professional projects. Todd hears from alumni that his improv courses were the best course of their masters program. Teaching creativity workshops at start-ups and established companies in Silicon Valley, Todd helps software developers to let go of preconceived ideas, perform divergent thinking, learn to experiment, and have fun in the process.

“There are people who prefer to say ‘yes’ and there are people who prefer to say ‘no’. Those who say ‘yes’ are rewarded by the adventures they have. Those who say ‘no’ are rewarded by the safety they attain” — Keith Johnstone (creator of improv for actors). Todd helps people who say ‘no’ to practice saying ‘yes.’

As a traveler, Todd likes creating plans, knowing where he is going, and having fun. But, a plan will only get you so far. Fixation on plans prevents the acceptance of the moment.

As Todd Sedano continues to manage software teams, he continues to refine his improv skills with his daughters.

Quotes:
Totally fun and freeing! Positive outlook. Made me think about situations differently.

Opened my mind to new ideas. I want to make some changes in my life. It was fun!

I’d recommend these workshops to other cruisers. I loved thinking about how blessed we are to be with others and to enjoy our differences.

Helped me to free my thoughts and way of thinking: giving up control. I loved it. So much fun!

I would recommend these workshops to _any_ group since the material covered offers practical and effective methods for dealing with real-life situations. In sum, there’s no preaching, only practicing!

Improv: Playing Characters – In this workshop, participants play with movement, create characters in groups, and ends with pretending to be different characters.

Improv: Telling Stories Together via a Narrative – This workshop teaches the fundamentals of storytelling and illustrates how we can generate stories spontaneously.
