About Jane Gawn

I have enjoyed Crochet since I was in my early teens, after finding knitting did not give me quick enough results! I taught myself and my mother, both left-handed, to crochet, although we crochet right-handed.

I am passionate about Crochet, having made many baby shawls and items for friends and family, the most unusual a ring cushion for a wedding in 2014. Crochet has become very popular recently, and this year I have been helping to run classes for beginners and improvers.

I am eager to try new patterns and designs, so staying proficient in understanding patterns and passing on the knowledge. I am always available to help and advise. In my experience people learn more easily in small groups where they can help one another and also make new friends, and I would work hard to create a relaxed atmosphere.

I trained in Accountancy, and helped small businesses to use Accounts software, finishing as a self-employed book-keeper. I also worked in computer support, helping small groups to master different software packages, and I taught A level Accounts and Bookkeeping at a College of Higher Education. I am a trained Volunteer Counsellor, working with charities for 15 years. I feel these skills are ideal for helping and encouraging people to learn and enjoy my passion for Crochet.

For the last 7 years we have lived in the Vendee in France, and I am offering Crochet classes to our gite guests this season.

I find Crochet a very relaxing pastime, and one that easily learned and also actually can look a lot more complicated than it is ! It can also be used to create an” heirloom” to pass on to your family.

I offer basic tuition in groups and also one-to-one sessions, for beginners and more advanced learners.

I will provide packs which include all materials, hooks, and detailed instructions, and of course will give lots of demonstrations. I will put together a choice of projects,i.e. baby shrug, Christmas decorations such as snowflakes, squares etc.
