Karin’s artistic skills were recognised at an early age and from the age of 16 she was sewing professionally for a local bespoke tailor.
Karin expanded her creative career by building a successful business as a Couturier – designing and making wedding, evening and informal attire. She also designed and made historical and theatrical costumes along with miniature wedding dresses. Since retiring, her dressmaking skills have been passed onto the next generation through private tuition and teaching at the local college. Over the years she has broadened her range of skills to include craft and toy making activities which she has taught for a large charitable organisation.
When her husband became interested in his family history, Karin embarked on learning how to research and record information correctly and has subsequently dedicated many years to this project. She has also designed a special course – ‘Researching Your Family History’ – which she has taught both privately and at the local college of further education. Karin often presents the results of her family research using the modern concept of ‘Scrap Booking’ to compile family albums.
Karin’s teaching experience has shown her that students retain more information when the course has been well constructed and delivered with demonstrations. She will always endeavour to achieve a relaxed atmosphere where students work in small groups helping each other and building friendships.
