Retired history teacher turned dynamic speaker, illuminating the past with captivating talks on World War One and Two, the Conflicts of the Twentieth Century, “The Peoples of the Book,” and the Renaissance, Reformation, and Royal Image. Brings historical events to life by putting them in their proper context, painting a vivid picture of the past for audiences. Currently a serving magistrate, with a passion for educating and inspiring the next generation of history enthusiasts.

Between the Wars – how the world got from  peace in 1918 to war in 1939

World War two – a summary

The Peoples of the Book – (not religious)  – the story of how Judaism, Christianity and Islam are inter-linked, how the faiths developed, how their followers have treated each other through history and where they “stand” today.

Elizabethan Portraiture – the hidden messages in the paintings of Elizabeth I

Besant, Bradlaugh and Butler –  three Victorian reformers whose campaigns around sex, workers’ lives and the role of religion changed Victorian society  and still impact on us today.

Emperor Franz Joseph I and the decline of the Habsburg dynasty ( 1848-1916)– a 68 year long reign which witnessed family tragedies on the grand scale – scandals, assassinations, madness, murder, suicide, executions, – all set against the background of a rapidly changing Europe and ending with a world war.

Leopold II and the African Holocaust – the forgotten story of  “the most despised man in Europe”-  a monarch whose greed for money and slave empire (decades after its abolition elsewhere) cost the lives of millions of Africans.
